Joy Harjo
Joy Harjo became the first Native American to be named Poet Laureate of the United States in 2019. She is a member of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation. Her books of poetry include well-known titles as Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings, In Mad Love and War and She Had Some Horses. Her writing has garnered many awards including the Camaiore International Award, the 2016 Griffin Poetry Prize, Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, IAIA American Book Award, 2013 PEN Literary Award for Creative Nonfiction, Eagle Spirit Achievement Award, and others.
