One of the strongest things you can do is bear witness. This book was written during the years I care-gave for my mother, Mary. Her long illness was the best and worst time in my life. We had a mother-daughter relationship that transcended being parent and child. She was my light, my protector, my cheerleader, my conscience, my best friend. It was not only my duty, but my absolute pleasure to care for her in her final years as she cared for me my entire life: with strength, humor, and love. mahogany is a story about the passing of time and unimaginable loss, trying to find a little joy amidst a lot of chaos. The dailiness of finding that joy.”
