Poetry and Physics: Rae Armantrout Reading and in-Conversation with Australian National University Physics Professor Ben Buchler

Street 2, Street Theatre, Canberra

Join us for an evening of poetry featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning poet from the US Rae Armantrout hosted by the Street Theatre, Canberra on Thursday September 19th at 6:30pm.

The poetry reading will be followed by a Q&A session with Professor Ben Buchler, an expert in quantum and nano-optics from ANU. Learn how poetry and science can be joined together in a thought-provoking discussion.

Rae Armantrout is the award-winning author of eighteen books of poetry, including Finalists, Conjure, and most recently Go Figure. Her collection Versed won a National Book Award. a National Book Critics Circle Award and a Pulitzer Prize. Her work has appeared in countless anthologies including Best American Poetry, In The American Tree and Language Poetries.

Professor Ben Buchler completed a PhD on the electro-optic control of quantum measurements in 2002. This work led to one of the early demonstrations of quantum teleportation. Recently, Ben became a partner in a global network of quantum sensors looking for signs of dark matter. This effort aims to solve one of the biggest problems in modern physics, where it appears that 85% of the universe is made of material we have never observed.
